With the spread of internet, people have been die-hard fans for the American TV dramas,especially the younger one.However, the effects of American TV dramas has sparked spirited debate.According to some people,watching American TV dramas is of great use for their English learning.While, in others’opinion, it is bad for children.It is evidently reasonable for some people to believe that watching American TV dramas can enhance their language sense in several aspects.Firstly,it can help the youth to enlarge their vocabulary unconsciously.When teenagers are watching dramas,they are not only attracted by the wonderful stories,but they can also learn some new words and phases and how to use them appropriately.Moreover,they can hear the pronunciation too.This way of learning English is more vivid than what they used to learn by reciting the books.Then,watching American serials is beneficial for students to gain the knowledge of American culture.They can understand the historical background and the social customs and habits.By contrast, some others may claim that the American TV series have no use for children to learn their English,but makes young people get bad.Violence is one of the negative part of American TV shows.Children are vulnerable to the effect of media violence.Their exposure to media violence may cause them exhibiting aggressive behavior, attitudes and values.They observe,some of them maybe imitate the bad behavior and propel them towards a life of crime.There are also some pornographic scenes which are harmful for the kids’ growing up.Overall, I tend to believe that both views are logical.For watching American TV series can enhance children’ s abilities of learning English,with the improvement of their vocabulary and learning skills.What more,their spoken English can also improved.However, it cannot be ignored that violence and pornography are harmful for children.
