Unit04 When MTV goes to CEO

A: Hi, B, you look not well, what’s wrong with you?

B: Oh, A, I was in conflict with my father. You know, I am working for an information company, and I can make my own schedules and work at home to enjoy a free life. But my father doesn’t think so, he called me slacker.C: Yes, I have been called as slacker too. Most about The Gen X was negative. We have been defined as arrogant, uncommitted, unmanageable slackers, and also disrespectful of authority.B: But it’s not the true Gen X.We are the “latchkey kids”, we have been adept at handling things in our own ways.I think this is the spirit of self motivating.A: I do agree with you.But the baby-boomers sometimes interpreted as arrogance. My manager once suspected if I can finish my job, the fact is I finished it in three weeks while the plan is one month. Then I communicated with my manager, I told him I can do my job well, but I’d like work to live, I want to balance my work and life.I also need time for family, friends and playing.C: We Gen X grew up with rapidly changing technology and availability of massive amounts of information. We can processing or sort large information quickly at the same time, which can help us finish our job in a short time. And we are the kind of people who respect substance over style.B: Yes, I think we are the generation of demanding honesty and clarity, but sometimes a refusal to just “do time” in an organization often interpreted as disloyalty and a lack of commitment.A: Perhaps this is so called the culture clash. How to solve the problem? I think we should understand the baby-boomers, and try to communicate with them.C: Yes, I agree with you, I think communicate is the best way to give the respect to each other.B: You are right, we need more understand and so we can build an environment of persity culture.
