Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of the great detective novelists in English history.In other words, he was the pioneer of the detective fictions, which created a new century in English history.Many people will ask that question: who influenced Arthur Conan Doyle? Actually, two persons----his mother, called Alary Foley and his teacher, Dr.Joseph Bell.His mother was a very well educated woman, who always told some stories to Conan when he was a child.According to Arthur’s biography, he said about his mother “In my early childhood, as far as I can remember anything at all, the vivid stories she would tell me stand out so clearly that they obscure the real facts of my life.” As to Dr.Joseph Bell, every fan of Arthur Conan Doyle knew this man who most impressed and influenced Arthur.Dr.Joseph Bell was a master at observation, logic, deduction, and diagnosis.All these qualities were later to be descripted in the famous detective Sherlock Holmes.You may ask me how the immoral and famous detective Sherlock Holmes comes from.When Arthur was in his

university, he had tried his pen at writing a short story, called “the mystery of Susassa valley”.It was accepted in an Edinburgh magazine called Chamber’s Journal, Arthur didn’t make him famous until the title A study in Scarlet was published, which introduced us to the immortal Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson.Actually, in 1893, Arthur wanted to get rid of Sherlock Holmes.In the final problem, Sherlock Holmes plunged to his death at The Reichenbach Falls.As a result, twenty thousand readers cancelled their subscriptions to The Strand Magazine, which pressed Arthur to consider giving Holmes new life.Obviously, we can see what did the public react to his works.The literature style of 1869-1900 had popularly become New Romanticism, which pays more attention to the feeling and imagination.It doesn’t emphasize the real of fact, and sometimes depends on contrived actions.And Arthur Conan Doyle was influenced by it.But he also had his style in telling story---deducing logically.Although Arthur’s detective fictions didn’t concentrate on facts, it reflects the conflicts between benevolence and evil of man.Many times, Arthur give readers some hints, and

reader always want to know the future, then with the story going, Arthur will make us unbelievable by his style of logical deduction and some scientic technologies.Usually, this may be the main way of earning money.After all, Arthur was very poor before he became a famous detective novelist.Arthur Conan Doyle started a new place of fiction which catapulted him to fame.His mother and teacher gave him great power and wisdom and Arthur created the greatest and most glorious adventure to word by his hard-working.Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holms, both are immortal in the history of literature.
