高一新生应该如何学英语

从初中到高中,是学习生活的一大飞跃。以英语学科为例,无论是在听说读写的能力上,还是词汇语法等语言知识上,对学生都提出了更高的要求。那么,怎样才能学好英语呢?

以下几项建议仅供同学们参考:

一、应学会自己学习。高中生不应该象在初中时那样,事事由老师为你安排,而应有自我探求的强烈愿望,并制定切实可行的目标;应学会自己计划学习活动,自己监督自己。只有成为学习的主人才可能把学习搞好。

具体到英语。老师讲课文之前,一定要预习课文,即自己读懂课文,自己念会单词,自己查字典。如果老师讲课文时再看课文,那就失去了一个重要的培养阅读和解决难点的机会。课后的学习活动,除了完成老师规定的作业之外,还应有自己的小计划。有的同学每天坚持听英语磁带,读一会儿英语课外读物,久而久之,英语水平就比别人高了。

二、应明确学习英语的主要方法是使用英语。事实上,我们学英语是在学一门技术、一种工具,而不是研究语言学理论。也就是说,高中生学习英语的主要目的是掌握实际使用英语的能力,即听说读写,使用英语去办事的能力。这跟学游泳一样,重点是会游,而不是掌握关于游泳的各种理论。

有的同学把学英语的主要时间花在钻研语法单项填空上,他们做了一百题又做一百题,为了搞清楚为什么,冥思苦想,多方求救,最后的结果是虽然会做不少偏题怪题,但听说读写的能力并没有多大提高。在高考中也是英雄无用武之地。我前两年教的一个学生叫贾楠,她是那年北京市的文科状元,英语成绩140分,现在在北京大学法律系学习。这个学生学英语就不是总做单选。学校来了外宾,她主动和人家说英语。课上讨论问题,她大胆发言,尽管口语中常有错误,也不怕人笑话。图书馆中的英文小册子她常常翻看。哪里举行英语作文比赛,她也积极参加。由于她抓住了各种机会较多地使用了英语,她的语言经验就丰富、语感就强,到考试时也就能游刃有余了。

三、积极参与课上的各项教学活动。高中阶段,上英语课时教师会主要用英语授课,开始听不懂没关系,但要有耐心,过一段时间总会听懂的。老师还会经常要求学生说英语,无论是课上发言、小组讨论、同桌对话或作值日报告,都要争取一切机会多说多练。不要怕出错,也不要怕人笑。说的能力是在说的实践中练出来的。高一不张嘴,以后就更不爱说了。至于老师安排的其他任务如预习课文、背诵、记单词等,均意义重大,不可忽视。

英语教材是由中英专家精心编写的,所选的文章均有典型意义,而且语言地道,用词规范。每个单元前的对话,必须背诵。后边的课文,也应尽量背下来。背不了全篇,背二分之一,三分之一也意义重大。学外语离不开背诵。背的越多,模仿得就越好。中学时期是背诵的最佳时期。

这个时期背的东西一辈子都难以忘记。

四、课外阅读应常抓不懈。仅仅读课本上的文章是远远不够的,课外阅读在量上要达到课本的8—10倍。要选择难易适度,自己感兴趣的课外读物来读。外研社近年来出版了一些适合初高中生的课外读物,如《书虫》、《新标准中小学英语分级读物》、《DK百科英语分级读物》和《剑桥英语分级读物》等,这些书均按词汇量分了等级,同时又作了注释或中文翻译,每天读一点,对培养语感,增加语言使用经验,将起着不可估量的作用。这些读物,不一定读得很仔细,也尽量不要翻辞典,明白故事意思就可以了。

这种阅读我们称之为泛读,而课堂上老师精细分析的课文的阅读叫精读。泛读的作用,短时间不太明显,时间长了就会感到它的重大意义。阅读时,要注意有意识地扩大眼幅,即一眼看一个词组,而不是一个词,要减少回读的次数,默读时不要出声音,要集中精力,还要学会边读边加工信息。不断地概括、分析、综合与推断。

五、练习听听英语。课上听英语的时间毕竟太有限,所以课外要每天听一会儿。可以听China Radio International(中国国际广播电台),或看CCTV—9的英语电视节目。开始懂得不多没关系,慢慢就会有改进。我们的学生常听的学习材料是新概念英语第二册和“走遍美国”。听英语时要精听泛听相结合,有时一篇小短文要反复多听七八遍,务求弄懂每一个词;有的则泛泛一听,知道大意即可。

练习听力要有一种积极进取的精神。我的一位学生,刚上高中时听力很差,但他并不灰心,上课他注意听老师和同学说的英语,中午他到图书馆借磁带听,星期六跑到英语角专门站在外国人边上听英语,甚至晚上睡觉前也戴上耳机听一会儿,到后来他听BBC的英语新闻都没什么困难了。

一、关于语法的学习。中国人学英语,学一些语法知识是必要的,要把语法的主要条条记熟背会。但是学英语的主要目的不是研究语法,而是用英语进行交际,所以花大量时间研究语法的细枝末节和做语法单项填空,是不足取的。不如用那些时间去背点儿短文,读点儿小故事或听听录音,学习效果会更好。要切记,英语水平的提高,是在使用英语的实践中实现的。
