2016武大考博英语试题及答案

第一篇:2016武大考博英语试题及答案

答案见附录

2016武大博士生英语入学考试真题答案

I.Reading Comprehension(40分)(黄老师提供)BCAD ACBA DDCA DCAB CCBA

Part II English-Chinese Translation(5*4=20

Part III Chinese-English Translation(20分)(方老师提供:标答)

We are not sure what “intelligence” is, not what is passed on.However, the fact does not prevent us from finding it a very useful concept, and placing a certain amount of reliance on tests which “measure” it.In an intelligence test we take a sample of an inpidual’s ability to solve puzzles and problems of various kinds, and if we have taken a representative sample, it will allow us to predict successfully the level of performance he will reach in a wide variety of occupations. The Education Act 1944 passed by the British parliament made secondary schooling for all become law.Grammar schools, with the exception of small number of independent foundation schools, became available to the whole population.Since the number of grammar schools in the country could accommodate at most approximately 25 percent of the total child population of eleven-plus, some kind of selection had to be made.Narrowly academic examinations and tests were considered to be in favor of children who had had the advantage of highly-academic primary schools and academically biased homes.Intelligence tests were then devised to counteract this narrow specialization, by introducing problems which were not based on knowledge from books. In other words, the intelligence test attempts to assess the general ability of any child to think, reason, judge, analyze and synthesize, mainly by presenting him with different actual situations within his range of competence and understanding.Part IV Writing 20分(牟老师提供)Sample1

Paper Book or Electronic Book Nowadays many electronic devices emerge, such as kindle, providing possibility for electronic books. However, most of the readers still prefer reading in the traditional way instead of electronic books. Why do the paper books win the landslide victory? Apparently, paper books are of greater collection value than the electronic book. Some readers are looking forward to a blissful atmosphere with a book in hand, sitting in the sunshine comfortably. An electronic book can never fulfill the desire for this atmosphere. What’s more, the paper book is better for the eyes while the screen of electronic book may do harm to the retina to some extent.Using the electronic devices, the readers are absent-minded more easily as there exist many temptations. What we can’t deny, nevertheless, is that the electronic book has its own special merits as well.First of all, it’s much cheaper. Then, it’s easier to be carried with. While some readers have to put a heavy paper book in the bag, the e-book reader merely take the phone. Also, the electronic book has a larger coverage as some books or essays don’t have the paper version.Generally speaking, the paper books are irreplaceable, still playing the dominant role in reading market.Electronic books are also indispensable. We readers should use these ways correctly.Sample 2

Reading in an Old-fashioned Way As scientific development has been a new trend of this era, words prefixed with an “e-” has been widely-used and gradually become a part of our daily routine. It’s an era of information explosion and the creation and innovation of E-book technology meets the requirements and developments of the network society. However, according to the survey, e-book sales dropped in the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom. It seems that people tend to read in the old-fashioned way.In my point of view, the reasons of this phenomena are as follows.First of all, paper books can easily make people calm down.Leafing through pages and feeling the unique scent of paper is absorbing and intriguing.Secondly, books printed on paper are easily shared by people, since reading is not an inpidual activity.Thirdly, nowadays people enjoy the relative informality of reading, and reading paper books is a good way to make people totally unrestricted by time and space.Last but not the least, paper books are cheaper than an e-book electronic screen.Generally speaking, reading in an old-fashioned way can also meet the multiple needs of people nowadays.Scientific innovation gives us more choices and we are happy to enjoy the convenience of this golden times. However, reading in an old-fashioned way in the era of information fragmentation is some kind of habit that we should retain.

Passage Two Questions 33 to 42 are based on the following passage.Have you ever suddenly felt that someone you know was in trouble — and he was? Have you ever dreamed something that came true later?Maybe you have a sixth sense(SS).This sense seems to let people know about events before they happen, or events that are happening some distance away. Here’s an example: A woman was ironing clothes.Suddenly she screamed, “My father is dead!I saw him sitting in the chair!” Just then, a telegram came. The woman’s father died of a heart attack. He died sitting in a chair. There are thousands of stories like this one on record.Scientists are studying them to find out what’s behind these strange mental messages. Here’s another example — one of hundreds of dreams that have come true:

A man dreamed he was walking along a road when a horse and carriage came by.The driver said,”There’s room for one.“The man felt the driver seemed dead.So he ran away. The next day,the man was getting on a crowded bus.The bus driver said,”There’s room for one more.“ Then the man saw that the driver’s face was the same face he had seen in the dream. He wouldn’t get on the bus.As the bus drove off, it crashed and burst into flames.Everyone was killed!

Some people say stories like these are lies or coincidences — things that happen by chance.Others, including some scientists, say that the SS is real. From studies of it, we may someday learn more about the human mind.38.This article is mainly about__C__.A)the five senses

B)the human dream

C)the sixth sense

D)the human mind 39.SS lets people know__A__.A)about events before they happen or happen some distance away.B)about events after they happen.C)about events that have come true.D)about events that are not happening or will happen some time later.40.By studying SS, scientists may get to_C____.A)learn how people tell lies.B)know more about human mind.C)learn how strange things happen.D)know more about human dreams.41.According to the passage, the author believes that the sixth sense is_C___.A)lifelike

B)dreamlike

C)in distance

B)Things that may not happen

C)Things that must happen

D)Things that happen in a dream

Passage Four Questions 48 to 52 are based on the following passage.Lately, plants that are usually only grown outdoors have found their way into inside spaces. There are a few simple reasons why this happens. The modern inside environment can be a good place for a wide variety of outdoor plants.Plants that ordinarily cannot grow in colder outdoor weather can be protected by the warmer inside spaces.Plants that used to be found only outside, such as trees, have become more and more popular as decorations(装饰)inside houses.Orchids(兰花), which were once only found in hot places, have begun to grow well in inside places. One reason that the modern home has made foreign outdoor plants more practical is the modern use of windows. In the past windows were used less often in buildings than they are today. It is partly because of the ability of large windows to admit a large quantity of light from the sun and to keep the heat in at the same time, that many outdoor plants have been able to make their move inside. It is true that most of the plants that have been successful in moving inside have been small. The best varieties are the small ones that make excellent decorations where other plants prove difficult to grow.Although some trees can be grown inside, it is not likely the larger varieties can be used.Unfortunately, most homes just don’t have the space to grow a monkey tree.48.The passage is mainly concerned with D________.A)the ability of large windows

B)the difficulty of moving monkey trees into homes

C)the best suited trees

With the growing awareness of healthy eating, more and more people now are paying more attention to the importance of healthy diet and an active life. But at the same time, a growing unrest over food safety in the China has caught everyone’s concern. When it comes to the food safety incidents, especially 2008 Chinese milk scandal, every consumer has much anger to pour upon them.In September 2008, a fresh outbreak of kidney disease occurred, due to baby formula contaminated by melamine.Three babies died and over 6,000 were made sick by the tainted formula. The supplier of the milk, Sanlu Group, is a name brand and is a major player in the industry in China. The company is said to have known of the problem for months, but claims the contaminant came from milk suppliers.Who should be main responsible for these serious incidents like milk scandal? On one hand, complex China’s food regulations should shoulder part duties. We should realized its monitoring system can be unresponsive, and the government departments that oversee and enforce policies have overlapping and often ambiguous duties. On the other, food producers and suppliers lack deserved responsibility for consumers! What they cares is only their own interest and profit maximization. In my opinion ,everyone involved in it should set up a high responsibility for others, law related should be passed and carried out.Only in this way can we come by a healthy eating and a harmonious world.
